1) From Defensive Shield to the War Against Iraq
The violence in Israel commenced on September 28, 2000 following a
visit by Ariel Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and
a proclamation of sovereignty over a small hill holy to both Jews
and Muslims. Since then, aggression mounted with suicide bombers that
promoted the IDF to move into the West Bank in an operation called
"Defensive Shield". This bloody campaign was intense in
Ramallah and ended after the siege of the Church of the Nativity in
Bethlehem. Superb images of the IDF in action during the campaign,
well documented by Sam Katz.
2) Operation "Unicorn": French Forces in the Ivory
Coast Civil War
The failed coup d'etat that took place on 19 September 2002 has thrown
the Ivory Coast into a civil war. The French were caught in the bloody
coup and French forces stationed in country and nearby rushed to Ivory

Yves Debay traveled around the country with different French units
and brought us this exceptionally illustrated article.
